Discover Choripan Rodizio

If you’ve ever wandered through Hackensack looking for something bold, smoky, and unapologetically satisfying, Choripan Rodizio at 10 Sussex St, Hackensack, NJ 07601, United States, is the kind of place that instantly pulls you in with the scent of grilled meats drifting onto the sidewalk. The first time I stepped inside, the energy felt warm and unpretentious-like a neighborhood diner fused with the spirit of a Brazilian steakhouse.

The menu centers around traditional rodizio service, where servers bring skewers of freshly grilled meats directly to your table. It’s a style popularized in southern Brazil, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul, and according to the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants, rodizio remains one of the most recognized dining formats representing Brazilian culinary heritage. Here, that tradition is alive and well. Juicy picanha carved tableside, garlic-infused sirloin, smoky linguiça, and tender chicken hearts arrive in steady rotation. Each cut is seasoned simply-mostly rock salt and natural juices-letting the open-flame grilling process speak for itself.

On my last visit, I timed the experience. Within minutes of sitting down, the first skewer arrived. The process is smooth: a small card on the table indicates whether you want more or need a break. Flip it to green, and the parade continues. Flip it to red, and the servers respectfully pause. It’s efficient, almost rhythmic. Watching the gaucho-style carving up close adds a theatrical touch, yet it never feels overwhelming.

Beyond the meat, the salad bar deserves attention. Fresh chimichurri, vinaigrette-dressed greens, farofa, black beans, and Brazilian-style potato salad add balance. Nutrition research from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health highlights the importance of combining lean proteins with fiber-rich vegetables for a balanced meal, and it’s surprisingly easy to do that here. You can indulge while still building a plate with variety and color.

I brought a friend who had never tried rodizio before. Initially skeptical about endless meat service, she ended up raving about the grilled pineapple dusted with cinnamon. That sweet-and-savory contrast cut through the richness and refreshed the palate. It’s small details like this that show thoughtful menu design rather than excess for the sake of it.

Service plays a big role in shaping the experience. During peak dinner hours, the dining room buzzes, but the staff keeps everything flowing. In my experience, the team was attentive without hovering, checking in just enough to make sure drinks were filled and preferences were respected. Reviews from local diners often echo this sentiment, noting both the friendly atmosphere and consistent quality. While wait times can stretch on busy weekends, reservations typically smooth things out.

The location itself is convenient. Sitting right on Sussex Street, it’s accessible for both locals and visitors exploring Bergen County. Parking in downtown Hackensack can vary depending on time of day, so planning ahead helps, especially on Friday nights. Still, once you’re seated, the outside hustle fades away under the steady glow of warm interior lighting and the sound of sizzling skewers.

From a culinary standpoint, rodizio dining isn’t just about quantity-it’s about technique. Open-flame grilling enhances Maillard reactions, the chemical process that creates those crave-worthy browned crusts on meat. Food scientists widely recognize this reaction as key to developing depth of flavor. You can taste that complexity in each bite of steak here-crispy edges giving way to tender centers.

Prices reflect the all-you-can-enjoy format, and while it may not be everyday casual dining for everyone, the value matches the experience. Portions are generous, quality is steady, and the range of offerings-from beef and pork to chicken and sausages-covers a wide spectrum of tastes. If you prefer lighter options, you can focus on the salad bar and grilled vegetables, though the real draw remains the rotating meats.

There are, of course, limits. If you’re strictly vegetarian, options may feel restricted beyond sides and salads. And during very busy periods, the pace of meat service can slow slightly. Still, transparency in pricing and consistency in preparation build trust with regular customers who return for celebrations, birthdays, and casual group dinners alike.

The overall vibe feels communal. Strangers at neighboring tables exchange recommendations-try the garlic steak, don’t skip the pineapple, ask for medium-rare picanha-and suddenly the dining room feels connected. That shared enthusiasm turns a meal into an experience, blending Brazilian steakhouse tradition with a welcoming New Jersey neighborhood spirit.

  • The best steak/parrillada in New Jersey, cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, don’t think twice and come get your parrillada, don’t forget your dessert. Sangria is amazing, but the service, specially from Pablo is phenomenal.

  • Incredible smokey flavor on all the meat and great service. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. Much better experience than going to a Brazilian steakhouse and better tasting meat. Huge portions.

  • Everything was exceptional from start to finish. Silvia took care of us, and the entire experience was nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend Choripan. The parrillada special was delicious, with the beef cooked to perfection. The sangria was also delightful, and the dulce de leche cake was a great ending to a fantastic meal. I would rate it 10 out of 10.

  • We had our team dinner at Choripan Rodizio, and the Argentinian food was absolutely delicious across the board. Everything we tried was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Special thanks to our server, Facundo, who was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this place!

  • I’m a big fan of Argentine-style steak, so I came here on a friend’s recommendation. Surprisingly, there were no other customers at the time, but despite that, it took nearly 20 minutes for a server to come over and take our order — we assumed they were not ready for customers. We ordered the Parrillada Argentina (served for three) and some empanadas. The portions were very generous. We asked for the meat medium, but it came out closer to well-done. It wasn’t dry at all — the meat was still quite tender. It could’ve used a bit more seasoning, but it was ok the chimichurri and hot sauce. The chinchulines (intestines) were a bit too fatty, as they hadn’t been trimmed much before grilling. However, the skirt steak, short rib, blood sausage, and sweetbread were all tasty, aside from being slightly under-seasoned. The accompanying house salad and rice & beans were also good, and the beef & chicken empanadas(we were 4. So shared it) were flavorful. Overall, the food was enjoyable and pretty authentic, with a few minor flaws. Service definitely needs improvement, but the quality and portion size of the food make it worth a visit — especially if you’re craving a proper Argentine parrillada.

  • I’ve come here a bunch of times. Always please and the food is great. This time we were served by Silvia. She was wonderful and very attentive. We’ve come here for my birthday 2 years in a row and plan to come back next year also!
